Inauguration Of CRC-Ranchi On 17th June 2020

On 17th June 2020, at 3:30 pm, the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC), located inside Namkum Block Office, Khijri, Ranchi was inaugurated by Dr Thaawarchand Gehlot, Hon’ble Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, through video conferencing.
The inaugural online meeting was conducted in the benign presence of Shri Arjun Munda, Honourable Union Minister, Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India, Shri Sanjay Seth, Hon’ble MP, Ranchi and Shri Rajesh Kachhap, Hon’ble MLA, Khijri, Ranchi, Dr. S. P. Das, Director, SVNIRTAR, Cuttack, Odisha and Shri Satish Chandra, Disability Commissioner, Ministry of Jharkhand etc.
The entire virtual inaugural programme was conducted under the effective guidance of Ms. Shakuntala D. Gamlin (IAS), Secretary, DEPwD and Dr. Prabodh Seth, Joint Secy., DEPwD.
For the programme, 46 nos. of wheel chairs, 80 nos. of tricycles, 64 nos. of crutches, 40 nos. of smart phones, 10 nos. of MSID kits, 50 nos. of hearing aids, 40 nos. of Dazy players, 40 nos. of Braille kits, 2 nos. of sewing machines, 2 nos. of laptops and 2 nos. of mobile repairing kits were made available for free distribution to the people with disabilities. On the inaugural day itself 45 nos. of tricyles, 10 nos. of wheel chairs, 1 nos. of Laptop, 3 nos. of auxilliary crutches were distributed to the persons with disabilities, following social distancing guidelines. Distribution of aids and appliances and services to the people with disabilities were provided on the inaugural day under the guidance of Dr. S. P. Das, Director, SVNIRTAR, Cuttack, Odisha. Rest of the assistive devices shall be distributed to the persons with disabilities gradually.
Here after, this centre, CRC-Ranchi, shall start providing rehabilitation services including Physical medicine, Physiotherpay, Occupational therapy, Audiology and Speech Therapy, Psychology, Prosthetics & Orthotics, Special Education, Early intervention & treatment etc. to the people with disabilities of the entire state of Jharkhand.
Through implementing various schemes of Department of Empowerment of people with disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, this Centre will contribute towards the vision of “Sabkaa Saath, Sabkaa Vikaas, Sabkaa Vishwaas” of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.
This CRC shall operate under the administrative control of Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training & Research, Olatpur, Cuttack, Odisha.
During the inauguration, Dr Thaawarchand Gehlot, Hon’ble Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, thanked the Government of Jharkhand for providing land and the existing building for establishing the 21st CRC of India at Ranchi. He assured that this Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities will be providing its best services towards the upliftment of the persons with disabilities, as before. He expressed his pleasure in achievement of 10 Guinness Book of World Records by this Department in providing such services to the people with disabilities. This includes conducting of 9147 nos. of rehabilitation camps across the country during last 6 years. To make the process of availing the services of this Department easier for the people with disabilities, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has introduced Unique ID card for the persons with disabilities (UIPD), according to which more than 34 lakh UIPD cards have already been disburshed. He intimated about successful distribution of 15000 motorized tricycles among the persons with disabilities having 80% or more disability. He also intimated about upcoming 5 nos. of Sports Complexes for the persons with disabilities across the country. Further, the Government is also providing loans with very little interest to the persons with disabilities so that they can start any activity for their sustenance.
He informed about many such schemes of the Government which are meant for the persons with disabilities, those are being offerred under the successful guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi.
During the inauguration, Shri Arjun Munda, Honourable Union Minister, Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India, emphasized that if a disabled person has one difficulty, by changing the mode of thinking we can find the same person having several other capabilities too. There are many instances of successful achievements by such persons with disabilities, who have become examples for others to be inspired.
He has also expressed best wishes and progress for the CRC.
Shri Sanjay Seth, Hon’ble MP, Ranchi expressed his best wishes and belief that this Centre shall work for the betterment and rehabilitation of the persons
with disabilities in the state of Jharkhand. He also expressed his consent to extend his support towards the centre, whenever required in future.
He also emphasized that one should not cry for what one does not have, rather one should focus on what he has.
Shri Rajesh Kachhap, Hon’ble MLA, Khijri, Ranchi expressed his pleasure on inauguration of the CRC at Ranchi. He opined that we all should work together towards providing better services to the persons with disabilities. We all should vow and show our commitment for the persons with disabilities to bring them to the main stream.
Ms. Shakuntala D. Gamlin (IAS), Secretary, DEPwD, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, opined that the 2.68 crores of people with disabilities, which is about 2.21% of our total population as per Census Report 2011, must be brought to the main stream as early as possible. Establishment of this Centre is one of the successful attempts of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, towards achievement of this vision.
She expressed her best wishes towards improvement of the Centre.
Dr. Prabodh Seth, Joint Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India welcomed all the guests of the meeting. He also expressed his belief that this Centre will work towards bringing positive changes in the lives of the people with disabilities.
Dr. Sakti Prasad Das, Director, SVNIRTAR, Cuttack, Odisha, narrated all the activities and services of the Centre and he expressed his vote of thanks to all the guests of the inaugural programme and all those who assisted and cooperated for successful establishment of the Centre.
All the guests moved around the Centre and expressed their satisfaction.
During the inaugural programme, Sri A N Nanda, Sri N Ojha, Sri Rasmi Ranjan Swain, Sri Satyajit Patnaik, Smt Suman Singh, Smt Kanchan, Sri Arshad Jamal etc. were present.
